description

In June 2021, adaptive athletes Vasu Sojitra and Pete McAfee attempted the world’s first disabled ski descent of Denali, North America’s tallest peak at 20,310 feet (6,190m). The expedition comprised six people and ten legs: athletes Vasu Sojitra and Pete McAfee, and filmmakers Erich Roepke, Stein Retzlaff, Ted Hesser, and Ben Farrar.

This team embarked on a three-week journey, ascending Denali via the West Rib route. This expedition was a difficult battle as the team faced challenging conditions, including dizzying altitude, harsh winds, heavy snow and temperatures as low as -30°F. This ambitious project attempted to mark a significant achievement in adaptive sports.

The crew transported over 1,000 pounds of gear to document the expedition. A short teaser of the expedition was licensed to Warren Miller for their 2021 film, “Winter Starts Now”.
