The Crux

A short film following world-class rock climber Todd Offenbacher as he balances family life with his passion for climbing, while raising his 8-year-old daughter to be part of the next generation of climbers.

Directed and produced by Stein Retzlaff, The Crux explores the intersection of family, passion, and safety in the life of Todd Offenbacher, a renowned rock climber, and his efforts to teach his daughter, Olive, the sport—and the lessons it brings—while navigating the complexities of family life. The film features Todd, Tara, and Olive Offenbacher, as well as other climbing families including Corey, Marina, and Layla Rich, and Chris, Tor, and Mia McNamara. With a production team including Matthew Hardy, Erich Roepke, Thor Retzlaff, and Nicholas Cahill.
