Do Good Shit

In 2018, Stein’s best friend Erich Roepke, his brother Thor Retzlaff, and Taylor Zehren, co-founded Do Good Shit, a non-profit organization focused on addressing the growing issue of human waste in ecologically sensitive outdoor environments. Their journey began on Mount Everest, where they witnessed firsthand the impact of unmanaged waste in one of the most iconic wilderness areas in the world. Inspired to take action, they launched Do Good Shit to implement sustainable sanitation systems in some of the most vulnerable regions on Earth.

Fueled by their shared belief in the power of action, they set out to create a solution. They understood that while many people visit and enjoy these pristine landscapes, the waste they leave behind can have a devastating effect on these areas. Do Good Shit was born with the mission to implement sustainable sanitation systems in ecologically sensitive regions like Mount Everest, Chile’s Torres del Paine, and Oregon’s Mount Hood, ensuring that future generations could enjoy these incredible places without leaving a negative mark on the environment.

The team of passionate adventurers didn’t just want to manage waste; they wanted to change the culture of outdoor recreation. By educating adventurers and local communities about responsible waste management and providing the tools to do so, Do Good Shit aims to reduce pollution, protect fragile ecosystems, and promote sustainable practices in wilderness areas. The organization quickly grew from an idea into a movement, inspiring individuals to take responsibility for their environmental footprint and play a part in protecting the wild places they love.
